BEFORE THE TASK - “Have I performed the task previously?”
“Have I performed the task previously?”
Taking on an assignment or aerial operation that I have previously performed can seem like a gift. However, it is also my opportunity to review what I had done and look for those areas where I can improve. The appearance of being easy can also be misleading. I have on occasion relooked at a report and seen an error which I didn’t see before. When flying I have encountered situations that I didn’t anticipate because I was in the mindset of business as usual.
Repeat work has been my opportunity to do a little more extra due diligence to support my previous results. I approach these tasks by thinking about what I did, how I handled it and did I need to seek out additional resources for support. I also think about what I missed and how I could have done it better. Repeatable tasks are great opportunities to develop those skills which make me better prepared for future assignments and operations.
So before you take on an assignment, ask yourself “Have I performed the task previously?”
